A few things I've picked up from years of eating and drinking around North Jersey. These will save you time, money, and disappointment.
Rutt's Hut gets busy right at lunch (11:30 AM to 1 PM) and dinner rush (5:30 PM to 7 PM). Go at off hours or prepare to stand. Weekday afternoons are your best bet.
Parker Avenue in Botany Village is best explored on a Saturday morning. Start at one end with coffee at Cafe Bubamara and work your way down. Street parking is available but fills up.
Most Parker Avenue spots take cards, but Rutt's Hut is famously cash only. There is an ATM inside but save yourself the fee and bring cash.
The Tick Tock Diner is open 24 hours, but the overnight crowd (midnight to 5 AM) is a scene of its own. Go once just for the experience.
Valentine's Day and graduation season mean Jamie's Cigar Bar books up weeks in advance. Plan ahead for those dates.
If you're looking for a quieter date night, go to The Barrow House on a weeknight. The beer garden is less crowded and the service is more relaxed.
